Things to do in Smiths Falls

Cataraqui Trail
This trail is open year round and acts as a shared-use recreational trail. It serves hikers, joggers, cross-country skiers, cyclists, horseback riders, bird watchers, naturalists and snowmobilers. The trail is the abandoned CN right of way that runs from Smiths Falls to Strathcona (near Napanee) and is 104 km long. The trail is open for use, but it will cost nearly $1.4 million to convert the old rail bed into a fully functioning component of the Trans Canada Trail. Entrance to the trail is just a short walk from the Best Western.

Heritage House Museum
Heritage House is situated in a picturesque area of the Rideau Canal and is a restored classically styled Victorian home. Today it depicts the life style of an upper middle class family living in Smiths Falls around 1867 - 1875. The museum’s unique mirror-image facades, indoor brick bake oven and two-story privy preserve an atmosphere of the past in the once derelict house. Enjoy a picnic near our gardens or take a short stroll through parkland to the Rideau Canal and Old Slys Lockstation. You will find changing exhibitions and art shows, a variety of special events, workshops and school and children’s programs year round. Open early May – December 20 10:30am - 4:30pm / daily January 2 - May 3 10:30am - 4:30pm; Monday – Friday. Call 613-283-8560 for more information.
