The community of Kenora is just a two-hour drive east of Winnipeg on the Trans Canada Highway (Hwy 17). Three hours north of the Canada-USA border. This area is an outdoor lover's paradise. Throughout the summer, viewers are treated to a free live musical performance on the Harbourfront in Kenora. See vocalists, dancers and instrumentalist perform jazz, blues, bluegrass, pop and classical pieces.
Heritage Townscape Murals
The Lake of the Woods Heritage Townscapes has been working since 1994 to present an outdoor gallery in Kenora. You will find 19 completed murals and work continues in the planning of more murals throughout the city. At least one more should be completed by this summer. Leading Canadian artists paint the murals on the large walls of buildings in the city; artists are chosen so that each mural will be unique in design and painting style to create an interesting outdoor art gallery. Months of planning are involved as well as the 5-8 weeks to paint. The sites are chosen to be seen in a pattern while walking, driving, and by boat.
Husky the Muskie
This huge replica fish is built of wood, steel and fiberglass, stands 13 m (40 feet) high and weighs close to 2112 pounds. Husky is a symbol for the Lake of the Woods where some of North America's best muskie fishing may be had. Husky the Muskie is located at McLeod Park in Kenora.
Kenora Air/NorthernLights
The organization offers world class Walleye and Northern fishing from a series of seldom fished waters bordering Woodland Caribou Provincial Park in Ontario. The fishing is incredible. There are no roads, not even logging roads! You can only get to these waters by air or canoe. Very few anglers have ever fished these fast moving waters and pristine lakes where the feed and structure produce World Class Walleyes and Northern in a truly remote setting. Kenora Thistles
Kenora won the Stanley Cup in 1907 against the Montreal Wanderers. If you are a memorabilia buff, check out the Thistles Pavilion on the Harbourfront for pictures, memorabilia and merchandise from the 1907 Kenora Stanley Cup Thistles! In 2000, one of the Heritage Townscape Murals was also dedicated to the 1907 Stanley Cup Champions.
Lake of the Woods Museum
This small museum houses a variety of interesting artifacts and archives revolving around the history of the Kenora and Lake of the Woods area. You will find boat models from the fur-trading era, household goods common during the late 1800s and photos from the various industries can be found in the building. Mather- Walls House
The Mather-Walls House and the entire community of Keewatin, can be traced to the vision of one family – the Mathers. The Mathers family introduced the Presbyterian Church, the telephone, sawmills and the benefits of a thriving economy to the good citizens of Keewatin. The House was built in the Queen Anne style and today the house contains turn-of-the-century furnishings from the early 1900s, and an interpretive display high-lighting the significant impact of the Mather family on the development of the area. Mather-Walls House is open for visitors from May - Labour Day Weekend. River Provincial Park
The movement of glacial ice can be seen in this Park. Find and examine some of the grooves and scratches in the rocks in this park to uncover evidence of this movement. Rowing
Kenora has a world class rowing site that was built in 1999. Kenora hosts a Northwestern Ontario Regatta annually and also had the pleasure of hosting the Canadian Masters National Championship in the summer of 2002. Please visit our website for more information.
