The town of Cobourg Ontario can be discovered approximately 75 km east of Toronto. The town has an early history, being founded by United Empire Loyalists in 1798. It is the largest town in and the seat of Northumberland County. To the south Cobourg borders Lake Ontario, and to the north, east, and west, it is surrounded by Hamilton Township. Visitors don't want to miss downtown Cobourg. It is both vibrant and refreshing with its picturesque streetscapes, well-preserved architecture and cobblestone roads all surrounding historic Victoria Hall. It is home to an eclectic mix of specialty retail shops & boutiques, services, restaurants, pubs and cafes as well as a flourishing commercial business area.

Things to do in Cobourg

Apple Route
This driving route meanders through pleasant orchards and friendly towns & villages between Colborne (401 exit 497) and Trenton (401 exit 525). The core of the Apple Route follows signs along Heritage Highway 2 and "spurs" take the traveller to scenic Presqu'ile Park near Brighton, historical Lakeport, past Fort Kente at Carrying Place and connects with the Loyalist Parkway.

Art Gallery Of Northumberland
Located in historic Victoria Hall you will find the Art Gallery of Northumberland. The Gallery features over 500 pieces of intrigue art in addition to programs, special exhibits and activities that are held here on a regular basis. Cobourg Beach
Summer is a time to kick back at the beach and cool off in Lake Ontario. The spectacular white sandy beach is just the place to find lots of fun, frolic in the cool water or simply relax. This beach draws thousands of visitors to its shore each year. Bask in the warmth of the sunshine and soak up the scenery; float in the cool, clear water or stroll along the rippled sand while the kids build sandcastles.

Cobourg Conservation Area
The Cobourg Conservation Area is located on the east side of William Street. The 31.27 acres (12.7 ha) of land was acquired on March 3, 1971 and is a natural area that is maintained by the Town of Cobourg. Perfect for picnics, playing sports and games in the open space or taking a stroll or fishing near the river.

Cobourg Farmers' Market
Tempt your taste buds at the Farmers market. As one of the oldest markets in Ontario, the Cobourg's Farmers' Market was founded in 1856 and offers locally grown produce, cheese, smoked meats and sausage, breads and pastries and other delectables. The market is open from 7am - 1pm every Saturday from May – December and is located at Victoria Square behind Victoria Hall.

Cobourg Highland Games
Held annually in early July, this is a mainstay in Cobourg for the past 40 years. Events include highland dance competitions, Scottish country dancing, heavy events, pipe band competitions and a parade. The impressive sight of the pipe bands parading through the town sets the stage for a most memorable day for all.

Cobourg Marina
This is one of the finest facilities on Lake Ontario. Located just two short blocks from the downtown, the marina is within easy walking distance to the main street shops, restaurants and businesses for all you need to restock your boat supplies

Concert Hall at Victoria Hall
This fantastic backdrop features many concerts and theatrical productions. Ganaraska Forest
This forest is great for hiking and cycling in warmer weather and skiing in winter. The area's rolling hills make it a favourite destination for the thrills of snowmobiling and tobogganing.

Historic Cobourg Jail
This smaller museum is set in an early 1900s building, which served as a maximum-security facility until 1998. You can see the areas where inmates conversed with visitors and see items related to prison life. Marie Dressler House and Museum
Dressler House was built in 1840 and is the birthplace of Oscar-winning 1930s actress Marie Dressler. The picturesque brick cottage features a memorabilia room with wax figures and a visitor information centre. Exhibits describe Dressler's cinema career, including a video and a mock-up from the set of Min and Bill.

Northumberland Forest Cross Country Skiing/ Bird Watching
Whether you cross-country ski for competition or just for fun, the Northumberland Forest has a trail for you. From the middle of December - March (depending on snowfall) seven trails which wind through natural woodlands and pine plantations are available for you to enjoy. This forest is also a special place as a bird sanctuary. In the past few years, 45 species of birds have been sighted. Bird watchers are very welcome to hike these woods in search of birds. Victoria Hall Concert Hall
The Hall was first opened in 1860 by the Prince of Wales. Designed by the famous Canadian architect, Kivas Tully, the Hall soon became the legal political and cultural centre of Cobourg and Northumberland County. Victoria Park Bandshell
The Bandshell is centre stage for live entertainment. July and August features free performances by the Cobourg Concert Band, scheduled every Tuesday evening.

Stretching along the shore of Lake Ontario, from Stoney Creek to Quinte West you will find that Cobourg offers an unparalleled access to this delightful 32- kilometre trail. The Trail extends east or west from Cobourg's waterfront.
